A Tutorial For An Ombre Nail Effect- Inspired by Pink's Covergirl Campaign Ombre Nails

 Hey Everyone,

I was super excited to try out the ombre effect from PINK's Covergirl campaign ads in magazines right now. One of my favorite parts of reading magazines is checking out all of the AWESOME ads in-between reading all of the stories. The PINK ad caught my eye right away, especially her AMAZING ombre nails. I took me awhile to be able to collect all the colors, but now that I finally got my hands on all of them, I attempted the ombre look for myself. I am super pleased with the results, and I will show you guys how I completed the look :)

All of the colors come from the Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss Collection.

* The colors to create this effect are Black Diamond, Midnight Magic, and Perfect Penny

I also tried out a new product that I am hoping will redefine the time it takes me to compelte a manicure. I picked up the OPI RapiDry Top Coat nail polish formula from Ulta the other night, hoping that it would significantly reduce the drying time on my nails (I have an extreme lack of patience in that area lol). I think that it works pretty well, and aside from the imperfections I caused myself from a lack of patience, I think this formula worked quite well! It was a little steep in price though (I believe normally $12.99 or so for a top coat)... But I didn't have to use much, so hopefully this lasts me for awhile :)

Step 1: Apply a base coat all over the nails for the polish to have a foundation to build off of. I prefer to use my OPI nail base coat polish.

Step 2: Apply "black diamond" all over the nails as the bottom most layer of the ombre effect. Let it dry for a couple minutes before you apply the next coat.

Step 3: Apply the "perfect penny" polish to the tips. Doesn't have to be exact at all. Remember that the ombre effect is looks like a gradient, where the colors gradually change to another color. Again let this color dry for a couple minutes before applying the next coat onto the nail.

Step 4: This next step is a little tricky to do, but I will try to explain it as best as possible. With the last color, which is "midnight magic," apply it in between the "black diamond" layer and the "perfect penny" layer. You want to make sure you don't have a ton of polish on the brush when doing this part. The midnight magic is meant to cover up where the "perfect penny" imperfections are, as well as adding that third color to complete the total ombre effect of the nails. Just remember, the key is to NOT have a ton of nail polish on the brush when doing this, because you want the color change to look gradual and not like a deliberate line on the nail.

Step 5: Once the last layer dries a majority of the way, apply a top coat to the nail. For this application, I choose my new OPI RapiDry Top Coat formula for more of a rapid dry solution to my normal "ruin my nails" problem. Any top coat will do, I just prefer my nails to dry quicker than the norm.

Step 6: ENJOY THE AWESOME EFFECT IT CREATES ON YOUR NAILS :)

    1. Thank You! I do need some practice on it and follow my own advice about not having to much nail polish on the brush for the last color step, but overall I'm pretty satisfied with the results :)

    2. Hey kaelyn! I tried making ombre nails and I used your tutorial with a few changes:
1: I used Perfect Penny as a base coat
2: I bounced a sponge on my nails while they were still wet with the other two colors to blend them a li'l better

I think they came out pretty durn close to Pink's nails! See if those help at all :D
