Essential oils are powerful against signs of aging, acne, and other undesirable conditions.
They are derived from some of the best Nature has to offer.
Over the course of human history, we’ve discovered that certain plants have beneficial effects on our skin.
Unfortunately, many cultures have moved away from traditional remedies that worked well towards artificial products designed in labs. Sometimes those artificial chemicals cause allergies and other unwanted side effects.
I’m not anti-science – I’m pro natural solution. If I can find something in nature that solves my problem, I prefer to use it.
Let’s take the example of acne.
Acne-Fighting Essential Oils
Pimples are a problem.
It’s not only that they’re unsightly as much as they’re uncomfortable and can lead to infection and scars.
I could use a commercial preparation with benzoyl peroxide to wipe out my acne. But there’s a cost: it could make my skin drier and more sensitive to the sun.
Instead, I prefer to use some of the best essential oils for acne.
I you guys haven’t noticed I have been actively trying to be more DIY and green about my beauty products, well my skin care anyways… I have been reading and pinning tons of ideas and recipes for transforming my beauty products into a more natural and green lifestyle choice, and one of my best sources who is also going through a similar lifestyle change is Arielle from her blog Beauty by Arielle. We have been commenting and reading each other’s blog for a while now that it totally makes sense to do a DIY beauty collaboration with one another!

So I started my search on Pinterest for a great, but easy DIY acne face mask for my absolutely unruly skin right now, and found this one here. It was simple, only needed 2 ingredients (3 if you add tea tree oil), and I already had two of the ingredients on hand to create this concoction. I’m going to show you guys how I created my acne mask using pure honey, and coconut oil.
What you will need:- Organic Virgin Coconut Oil- Organic Pure Honey or Raw Honey (I wasn’t able to find the raw one at my grocery store so I substituted with pure honey instead)- Optional- Tea Tree Oil (I added a few drops to help combat acne causing bacteria)
I started by combining 1 tbsp. of the coconut oil and 2 tbsp. of the honey together in a small Tupperware container. (I later decided to double the recipe)
I then added a few drops of tea tree oil to the mixture and then made sure it was mixed through well.
I then applied a generous layer to clean skin for 30 mins a day for a little over a week now.
While I have noticed that this mask is helping to dry out my frequent breakouts, it hasn’t instantly cured the problem. I have noticed visible reduction in redness come the morning time, but again it hasn’t been the instant clearing mask like I thought it would be which is a little disappointing for me… I think it is definitely a great treatment solution though, and like I mentioned it is doing wonders for drying up those break out spots so they can begin to heal. The original recipe, as I mentioned above, called for raw honey, so I will probably try to get a hold of some of that off of amazon to see if that changes the effects and outcome of this treatment mask. But as of right now after using it fairly consistent over the last week in a half, I find that this mask is just okay. I do love the fact that it is gentle enough to use as a daily treatment, and is definitely moisturizing with help from the coconut oil. I will definitely keep using this consistently over next couple weeks, and give you an update on the results.

Recently I gave into the hype surrounding the Covergirl Ready, Set Gorgeous foundation set, and let me tell you, it was totally worth the buy! This is hands down the best full coverage foundation that I own, and it is my exclusive foundation choice at the moment. When I say full coverage, I mean FULL COVERAGE, but without the cakey, overdone look that most heavy full coverage formulas will offer you.
I wanted to test this set out over a long period of time to make sure that… 1. It didn’t break me out being a drugstore foundation 2. That the coverage didn’t look cakey, heavy or accentuate my pores 3. That the color suited me and didn’t oxidize too dark on my skin
I think it is safe to say that this foundation set does none of the above!
The Covergirl Ready, Set Gorgeous set can all be purchased separately and retail for around $7.99 each. The price alone makes each of these products well worth it, and about a $30 difference from my favorite high end full coverage foundation, the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation.
Biggest difference between the Covergirl foundation and my high end choice is really in the performance of the formula! I was astonished to find that the Ready, Set Gorgeous out performed my Tarte counterpart in the areas of smoothing out my pores, and giving me a nice, flaweless finish to my skin. It didn’t take long for me to return my Tarte foundation in lieu of this new discovery.
Oil Free Foundation: This product is the winner of the bunch, and definitely my favorite of all. I like the fact that this foundation is oil free and doesn’t contribute to additional break outs on my face. I find this formula looks pretty dark out of the tube and in the swatch photo above, but on my face I think it looks incredible (making my dull winter face look alive)! While it is a full coverage foundation, it does not feel at all heavy on my skin, nor does it feel too drying like some full coverage foundation formulas. It provides a wonderful matte finish, an essential asset with my oilier skin.
It does a wonderful job of smoothing out all of my pores, covering up blemishes and redness, evening out my skin tone and giving me a nice, healthy pallor even in the wintertime. I use a dome foundation brush to apply this to my face every morning by squeezing an ample amount onto my hand, dipping the brush into the product, and applying directly to my face in buffing motions. I am already probably a good half way or more through this tube, and will need to repurchase very soon!
Oil Free Concealer: I find this concealer to be best for covering up underneath the eyes and highlighting my forehead, bridge of my nose, cupids bow and chin areas. As far as covering up blemishes, I need a much thicker formula to stay on my skin all day plus building this up over a layer or two of foundation tends to look a bit cakey on my skin. I think this product will last me a long time as I only utilize for the purposes I mentioned above.
Fresh Complexion Powder Foundation: This is definitely my second favorite product in the set, and one of my favorite setting powders in my collection. What’s great about the formula is that it truly is a powder foundation and not just a translucent powder on the skin. This product gives me a wonderful matte finish, and really helps my foundation stay all day without any touch ups throughout. If I could recommend the necessary products out of the set it would be the liquid and powder foundations in tandem with one another, and you can tell from the picture above just how well loved this product is!
I really love the lasting power of this formula, and find that it has little to no breakdown throughout the day.
Here’s my face 12 hours later, and it still looks relatively fresh on my face, minus a couple of spots poking through. If you are someone that is looking for a formula to stand the test of time throughout the day, this foundation set is for you!

So I have been waiting for the opportunity to head into Sephora to buy a couple of Soap & Glory products. I have been hearing great reviews about this line of body care products online, and I was so excited to pick up my first few items yesterday. I was even equally more excited to try out every single product last night, and all I can say is AMAZING!!!! There wasn’t a single product that I wasn’t in love with as soon as I put it on my skin. I purchased the “Clean on Me” creamy moisturizing shower gel, the “Righteous Butter” body butter, and the “Fab Pore” intensive-action pore-refining facial peel. Check out my review of these products below, and leave me comments if you love these products as much as me.
Clean On Me Creamy Moisturizing Shower Gel- I bought the travel size just to try it out, and I will definitely be going back once I run out to get a full size bottle. This is a very creamy, and moisturizing formula that goes on my skin so nice and smooth. And the smell!!!! The smell is like a combination of pink lemonade and a sweet tea. It smells so clean and fresh on my skin, and the smell lasts even after I get out of the shower. Me fiance even commented about how good I smelled last night (which is saying a lot that he noticed that), so therefore I know that this product works amazingly. I also noticed that it washed out of my lufa pretty quickly so I didn’t have to stand there for an extra 5 minutes trying to get all the soap out while the shower turned cold. This product works very well and in conjunction with the next product that I am going to be talking about…
The Righteous Butter Body Butter- This was the first product I picked up yesterday, because I have been looking for a really good body butter that actually does what it says it’s supposed to do. The sales girl at Sephora raved about this product, also confirming that the product is tried and true! This formula is the one geared toward really dry skin, and with the winter months still ever present in Ohio, I am in desperate need of a moisturizing body butter for my skin. The scent of this product is something I can’t even describe, because I have never smelled something like it. All I can say is that it smells fresh and clean, along the same lines as the shower gel. It comes in a cute, round, pink container and the formula is a white creamy consistency that has a little bit of a cooling effect on the skin. What I loved the most was that I noticed that my legs still felt super moisturized hours after my shower! And the packaging is so adorable and to die for! I love the 40’s vintage look on packaging, and I think that is one huge reason I was so attracted to these products right away. I also purchased this product in the travel size to try it out (I highly recommend doing this if you just want to try out the product, because it is significantly cheaper than the full size product aka $5).
The Fab Pore Intensive-Action Pore-Refining Facial Peel-The Sephora girl totally convinced me to get this product, so this was my bigger impulse buy of the day. I was still using the sample of the Origin charcoal facial mask I got last time from Sephora, and I wasn’t super impressed so I wanted to give this product a go. this mask is supposed to take all of the impurity’s out of your face that collect over time. I would almost compare this to putting on vix nighttime cream to help you breathe when your sick accept that it isn’t as gross or thick on the skin, but the minty smell is almost identical but not as powerful or burning lol. The formula starts out with these moisturizing beads that are supposed to dissolve as your rub it into your skin. It definitely goes on thick like a facial mask, and is a formula that is meant to be left on for a brief period of time. I left mine on for the instructed 15 minutes for a “deep” cleansing treatment, but the instructions also recommend that you keep it on for 5 minutes just for a touch-up treatments. This product is only meant to be used 2-3 times a week, but I will probably limit it to 2 because of how dry my skin is in the wintertime. What I loved the most was that, unlike the charcoal mask, when I removed the mask my skin didn’t feel tight and dried out. Instead I felt that it retained all of the moisture and brightened my face up significantly. I was very pleased with the results of this after the first use, and I will let you guys know if I continues to improve my skin over time.
AND COME ON… WHO CAN’T RESIST THIS ADORABLE PACKAGING?!!!!!!!
I have found a new love for a product, and I will definitely be repurchasing these products again in the future, if not just for the scent alone! The Sephora girl raved about a couple other products in their line that she loved, including the lip plumpers! I will definitely be exploring this line further, and hopefully I will turn you guys onto it too! Please leave me comments if you have tried and loved these products just as much as I did. Please let me know other products in this line that you recommend me trying out too
